Invisalign FAQ

What are the benefits of choosing an orthodontist?

An orthodontist is a specialized dentist with an additional degree earned from years of training and expertise in orthodontic treatments that resolve teeth misalignment, jaw pain, and incorrect biting. Orthodontists work to restore the way your teeth function and optimize your smile in a way that a general dentist is not trained to in dental school.

How many months does an Invisalign treatment require?

Invisalign treatment generally ranges from 15 to 21 months but varies on a case-by-case basis. Treatment time can also be affected by compliance, severity of the affected teeth, and any occurrence of growth. To ensure that treatment is completed on time, it is essential to wear the aligners 22 hours per day and to undergo good oral hygiene practices.

How does orthodontic treatment work?

Braces and Invisalign exert a gentle pressure on the teeth to move them to their natural position. Braces are connected to the teeth by a bracket with dental cement. When the wire is placed into the brackets, the wire returns to its original shape, resulting in increased pressure to move your teeth to their new, more ideal positions. In the case of Invisalign, clear, tooth-colored attachments are placed on your teeth and the plastic aligners are placed over the teeth and attachments. The aligners are replaced every two weeks and each aligner is slightly different from the previous one. As the plastic aligner mold changes from aligner to aligner, so do your teeth.

How will braces affect my daily activities?

Braces will generally not affect your daily life, but they do require a slightly different diet. All hard, sticky and chewy foods need to be eliminated. Additionally, brushing and flossing will take longer. Mouthguards are also recommended to protect your appliances from physical impact if you play a contact sport.

How is Invisalign different from regular braces?

Invisalign straightens your teeth without the distractions or additional maintenance that braces may present. The treatment consists of transparent plastic aligners that gradually change over time as you move from one set to the next. We utilize 3D computer imaging to recreate your teeth for a personalized custom result. Aligners can also be removed at any time for brushing or eating activities. There are basically no food restrictions with Invisalign treatment.

What are the best features of Invisalign?

Invisalign uses aligners that are clear so that no one knows you are undergoing orthodontic treatment. They can straighten your teeth with little discomfort or distractions.

Invisalign allows you to enjoy your daily life without making frequent changes. They can comfortably be removed whenever you are eating your favorite foods or preparing to brush your teeth.
